If you like to make New Year’s Resolutions or engage in a bit of goal planning, the New Year is a perfect time to set goals for your business and get organized. Get organized and get started on project declutter office.

If we run a home based business, we can reflect on how the year went by for our business by asking ourselves some pertinent questions. Questions to ask ourselves include whether we achieved our business goals for the year, what went well, what could be improved upon, and what goals we are going to set for ourselves in the coming year.

The beginning of the new year is also an opportune time for getting organized with our home business. It is time to catch up on our paperwork. Paperwork from last year that we no longer require can be filed away and archived.

Decluttering our office also means improving our systems of organization that allow us to run our business.

Perhaps we maintain our own physical inventory of stock. The new year may bring it with new products that we want to sell. It is a good time to review the current products that we have on offer. If we sell physical products and stock them in our spare room, it’s time to take stock of our products and decide what to do with them. As well as clearing away and organizing physical stock, don’t forget to update your inventory software.

Another system that is always important to keep well oiled is maintaining our books.
Whether we do our own bookkeeping or employ someone to do our bookkeeping for us, we need to get ready for the tax man each year. If can be an arduous task if we can’t locate our business receipts near tax time. However, if we have a good system in place to collect our financial information, we should be ready for the tax man any time of the year. If we don’t, now is the time to make the changes to improve your bookkeeping system.

Decluttering our office can also involve reviewing the layout of the office. Has the office functioned effectively for us this year? Try changing the layout of our office such as the location of your desk, organizing the bookshelves and filing cabinets, or installing a whiteboard on your wall.

Placing plants in our home office may improve the levels of oxygen circulating in the room during the day. Pick out a couple of nice plants and decorate your office. You will enjoy the greenery as well as work in a fresher room with increased levels of oxygen circulating through.

Decluttering your home office may be just the catalyst you need to usher in a successful year for your home based business.
