If you are with one of the Direct Sales companies, I am sure you know all about how important it is to add new team members to your home business. When you build a successful downline team, you will make a certain percentage of your team’s sales, which adds to your income stream.

As someone who has worked in Direct Sales since 1989, I thought I would share some of my best tips on where I find my newly recruited team members.

1. At The Party: My number one source of adding new members to my business has been when I have recruited them from a home party. During the party presentation, I drop numerous hints about how fabulous it is to work from home with ABC company. At the end of my presentation, I always spend a few in depth minutes talking about the home business opportunity with the attendees.

2. At Offline Networking Events: My number two source for adding new members to my home business has been when I have attended local home business networking events. When you attend these events, you are meeting and greeting with other like-minded home business professionals who are interested in you and the type of business that you represent.

3. On Online Social Media Networks: My number three source for adding new members to my home business has been when I have ran advertisements on various online social media networking sites. These advertisements can be text ads or graphic ads and both have been effective for me. When I run ads on these networking sites, I try to target people who I think would be interested in my business. For the most part, I target stay at home moms.

4. On Online Work At Home Web Sites: My number four source for finding new members to add to my team has been through text ads or graphic ads that I have placed on various online work at home mom or stay at home mom web sites. These type of web sites attract the type of people who are most likely to join a Direct Sales business.

5. In Print Offline Media Publications: My number five source for finding new members to add to my team has been from classified advertisements that I have ran in various local print publications. To be honest, I don’t get much of a response from newspaper ads. However, when I place print ads in regional magazines, I have gotten a great response.

Well…there you have it! These are the top 5 places where I find new members to recruit into my home business opportunity. No matter where you decide to advertise your business, you always need to make sure that you are targeting the type of people who are most likely to be interested in the type of business that you represent.

First of all, a home business opportunity may be the greatest thing for you if you are disciplined enough to actually work hard and lay a solid foundation for success. It can also come back to bite you on the butt if you’re not willing to put in the work so don’t forget that. Place that in the back of your mind right now and let’s move on…

You may or may not know that there are opportunities thrown your way every single day…some are good, some are bad, and some are great. The good ones are the one’s with the potential to make a living from home…the bad one’s are the scams presented by people wanting to basically steal your money by playing on your dreams…and the great ones are the ones that have the potential to actually fulfill your dreams.
How do you know which is which then?

Well, there are clues that you can use to cancel out opportunities one by one, and when you find the one that fits all of the clues that it’s a great opportunity and it seems like something that you can be proud of being a part of then you should jump at it because nothing in life is stagnant and it may be a while before an opportunity like that one pops up again.

So clue number one: Does the home business opportunity have a solid product that it’s based on. If the product is the opportunity, then you can rule out that opportunity right there altogether.

Clue number two: Is there a system in place where you will be trained step by step to success. Will you be able to train with top people within the company who have succeeded already or are you simply handed a manual full of fluff and set off on your own. I’ll give you a direct hint right now. The only type of opportunity that really offers you superior training like what I’ve mentioned – where really successful achievers are more than willing to train you – is the network marketing industry. If the opportunities that you’re looking at are network marketing companies then you’re definitely on the right track…and don’t listen to all the silly scam talk about them…those are people who didn’t do the homework that you’re doing now.

Clue number three: Will you be paid handsomely for the work that you do? Better yet, will you be paid over and over for the work that you perform, which should eventually consist of training others the way that you were trained to duplicate a system for success. Also, can the new beginner to company actually see results quickly or not?

So there are the three main clues. If a home business opportunity fits within those clues then there’s a very good chance that you’ve stumbled onto something special.

Direct sales can be very attractive. For some reason, people think selling through a party plan is an easy way to make money. Sometimes the product is really cool – like jewelry or home spa products. Sometimes you think of the discount or fun parties you will have. You think it’s a great chance to get out of the house for some FUN. There is a problem though with party plans. They are absolutely not for everyone.

So who might not be successful when they join a home party plan?

People out of touch with their own strengths and weaknesses.

Those that don’t find success in direct sales often believe they are more social than they really are. They talk about how this is a great chance to get out and about – to be around people and have fun but in truth, they really want to stay home and wait for money to fall through the roof. (I know – I’ve been there myself!)

People that fear change

People talk a good talk about wanting to set goals and achieve dreams but some want these successes to come without change on their part. Sometimes, we talk about wanting change. We say we want to do something different and new but honestly, just the thought of CHANGE rattles some of us to the bone! Without change, we are stuck. Change that helps you grow as a person is wonderful. Change that brings you financial success is motivating. Change that leads to friendships and working with your own team is priceless. People that want the easy road

There are people that think direct sales is easy and that money will pour in with little effort of their part. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Direct sales success (just like everything else in life) is totally dependent how much focus and energy is put into the business. There is a direct correlation between what you put into it and how much money you make. If you can’t muster up the nerve to be out making contacts most days then the parties will not happen, you won’t recruit or book fundraisers – you won’t make money. Anything of worth in life means work. Work fueled by your passion is FUN.

People that have lack belief

People that don’t have faith in the VALUE of what they offer their customers will not succeed. Lack of faith in yourself or your business will keep you in your home, not making the money you dreamed of making. Without total belief in the quality of what you offer, selling is near impossible.

If you are shy or uncomfortable around people but want to be in direct sales, there is only one true solution – fall in love with your product. This passion of yours will help you overcome these obstacles. Your belief in what your product can do for your customers is what will truly motivate you to step outside your comfort zone. Only then will you start booking parties and fundraisers that lead to all that FUN part of direct sales and of course, the income!

Success in direct sales means growing and changing while learning new skills. If you want to stay home more than be out with people, then joining a party plan isn’t going to work. If you are afraid of work or rejection, then don’t look to direct sales for your home business. If you don’t love the products you would be selling, it’s a no go for direct sales.

Yes, the commission rates can be great – some direct sales companies offer up to 50% commission plus override commissions for team building and management. Working from home with a party plan can be lucrative and fun. You can join many direct sales companies for less than $100 so the start up is amazingly low compared to other business start up costs. All of these make direct sales a great home business opportunity BUT only for those that want to be challenged.

Are there really great direct sales opportunities out there? Yes, indeed but only for the right person. Before you join a direct sales company or consider booking parties, look at what you love to do and what you are willing to do to make it work. Otherwise, save your time and money. There are other ways to earn money from home!
